The care we provide at St Josephs Nursing Home, Kenmare:

Full Time care

The majority of our residents are living with us on a full time basis. Our aim is to offer a home away from home environment which allows residents and family members the peace of mind living in a comfortable, professional and friendly homely environment.

Convalescing

Due to the large waiting times in our Hospitals today, people are being discharged sooner, and still need time to recover. Rest, diet or exercise is often required. The convalescence program at St. Joseph’s assists individuals with recuperation and recovery after surgery, or serious illness. St Josephs is accredited to V.H.I and Quinn Health Insurance.

Respite care

Many family members and carers work hard in our communities, minding the elderly at home. The purpose of our respite care program is to provide temporary relief to caregivers at home. This service allows for that wanted break, be it one or two weeks, we are there to help.

The Fair Deal (Nursing Home Support Scheme)

The Nursing Home Support Scheme is a new scheme of financial support for people who need long-term nursing home care. It replaces the Subvention Scheme which has been in existence since 1993. Under the Nursing Home Support Scheme, you will make a contribution towards the cost of your care and the State will pay the balance. This applies whether the approved nursing home is public, private or voluntary. The scheme has a number of steps and these are set out in the support scheme booklet.

Since its introduction in October 2009, there has been a great demand for the fair deal and to date this continues. This service makes nursing home care very affordable,and we have a contract in place with the fair deal.
